Family Film Session Prep Guide.png

So you booked your session. Now what?

I am so excited to capture you and your loved ones through film. Custom family films are unique because they show you and your family in real life, in motion, and even capture raw emotions! I aim to capture natural scenes of your family and children. The goal is to not have anyone looking at the camera, but to capture the true essence of your family. This can be challenging when I first arrive, but you and your children will quickly learn to just ignore the camera. I take a documentary approach to family films to create a video of your family that you will cherish for years to come!  Here are a few tips to help you prepare for your session with me.

Location

Together, we will decide on the best location for your film. Most of my clients prefer their sessions in their homes. If you would like to add an additional location for your film session we can discuss that as well.

Time

I will spend about 2 hours with you and your family for your film. Time of day will matter if you have little ones that need to nap.

Length Of Session

The good news is, I am super fast! My family film sessions rarely last more than two hours. Don't worry, I can easily get diverse and adequate film footage in that time.

What To Wear

Wardrobe should be comfortable and reflect who you are.

Your Home

I recommend tidying up your home before your session. If there is anything "out" or "on counters, couches, floors" that you do not want in the video please be sure to put those items away. I cannot edit out items in a film like I can in a photo.

Your Children

Remember that children are not used to being filmed. It is best if we just give the children time to relax and try to capture their natural self. Don't worry if your child is running about and active. To get the most out of your session, make sure that your little ones have rested. Prepare the child for the session by letting them know that a friend will be taking some video of them and that they can simply ignore me and the camera once we get started.

I can't wait to capture your family! Do not hesitate to ask me any questions you have. See you soon!

Activities

Please plan 3-4 different activities for you and your family to participate in while I am there. This can be cooking, playing a game/sports, outside fun (riding bikes, playing on a swing set), dress up/tea party, reading books, etc. I will document everything else of course but I want to capture some of the things your family does on a regular basis.
